Hand-Balancing Playground
90-Minute Workshop | All Levels Welcome
Get strong. Have fun. Learn cool things with your body.
Hand-Balancing Playground is a 90-minute playshop exploring low-to-the-ground hand balances like crow, croc, elbow levers, and "QDR" (from the world of capoeira) — and then playing with static progressions, variations, and dynamic ways to flow with them.
This is not about nailing a pose and moving on. It's about learning to do more with these movements as you develop strength, joint health, mobility, coordination, creativity, and neurological complexity — all while having a whole lot of fun
What We'll Explore:
Mixed movement discipline hand-balances: Crow (from yoga), croc (from circus), QDR (from capoeira), and other elbow levers
Static progressions: Building strength and stability through skill-based holds
Dynamic movement: Transitioning between positions, incorporating hand balances into flow and improvisation
Creative play: Finding your own variations, dancing with the shapes, exploring what feels good
Why Hand-Balancing?
Hand balances are one of the most efficient ways to develop:
Strength — full-body integration, especially upper body and core
Joint health — building resilient wrists, shoulders, and elbows
Mobility — active range of motion through loaded positions
Coordination — proprioception, balance, and body control
Neurological complexity & novelty — your brain loves learning new movement patterns
It's Really Fun – feeling capable and playful in your body is its own reward
What to Expect:
This workshop blends technical detail with creative exploration. We'll break down the mechanics of key positions, practice progressions to build skill safely, and then open it up — flowing, dancing, improvising, and playing with what you've learned.
There will be plenty of wrist/shoulder preparation, associated mobility, and body care/recovery techniques.
All levels welcome — whether you're a total beginner curious about your first hand balance, or an advanced practitioner looking to refine technique and add flow.
Progressions and modifications will be offered throughout so you can work at your edge, wherever that is.
What to Bring:
Comfortable clothes you can move in
Water bottle
Optional: yoga mat for wrist cushioning
Who This Is For:
Beginners who want to start hand-balancing in a supportive, accessible environment
Movers looking to add dynamic strength and coordination to their practice
Yoga practitioners, dancers, martial artists who want to explore hand balances outside of static holds
Anyone who wants to feel strong, capable, and playful in their body
No prior hand-balancing experience required.
Bring curiosity and a willingness to try.
